Yosuke Hanamura: The Magician

In Persona 4 Golden, Yosuke is your loyal best friend, and he represents the Magician arcana in the game’s social link system.

Like you, Yosuke is new to life in the country. His father was a manager for the Junes department store in the city, and the family moved out to Inaba so he could start up a new branch in the country. This makes him a prime target for local gossip, and Yosuke finds himself struggling with boredom and loneliness in his first 6 months in Inaba.

Everything comes to a head when Yosuke is forced to confront his shadow self in the TV world, and thanks to the help of you and Teddie he accepts that side of himself. In his social link, Yosuke will continue to grow stronger emotionally and in battle. Can this city boy learn to love his new home?

Tips

Yosuke is typically available to hang out on Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, although he won’t be around for rainy days. During the week, find him on the second floor of the classroom building; on days off (Sunday and any holidays) he’ll be at Junes. For each rank-up event, bring a Magician persona with you to increase his friendship level faster. You’ll begin this social link on April 16th, so you have plenty of time to level it.

Rank 2

• When Yosuke says “Sorry about that. You know me, I’m infamous around here.”, choose “It must be tough.” to gain +3 friendship.
• For this rank, Yosuke will learn Trafuri, which allows you to flee from most battles.

Rank 3

• When Yosuke says “Wait a minute… Am I starting to sound like Teddie?”, choose “Hmm, you’re looking hairier.” for +3 friendship.
• When he says “Looks like someone got my address. I get a lot of spam.”, choose any answer.

Rank 4

• When Yosuke says “Phew, I’m beat… I am not the complaints department…”, say “You’re incredible.” for +3 friendship.
• When he says “I have to do what I can.”, respond with “That’s the spirit!” for another +3 friendship.
• Reaching rank 4 will teach Yosuke the highly useful Dekaja skill, which nullifies stat boosts for all enemies.

Rank 5

• When Yosuke asks “So…? You keep the goods under your futon?”, answer with either “Of course.” or “Huh?” for +3 friendship.
• When he asks if you’ve ever invited a girl here, tell him you will soon for another +3 friendship.

Rank 6

• When Yosuke says “But hey, I’m glad you were there! Thanks.”, respond with “No problem.” for +3 friendship points.
• When he says “So… there’s no need to bother with outsiders.”, say “You’re right.” or “Man, you’re mature.” for +3 friendship.
• Yosuke will learn Auto-Sukukaja, which automatically increases his hit and evasion rates when starting a battle.

• When Yosuke says “They started to badmouth Saki-senpai…”, choose any answer.
• When he says “I just blurted out a buncha crap, huh?”, respond with any option.
• After this social link, you can get a special uniform for Yosuke in Junes. Talk to the lady at the front of the store who sells vegetables to pick up the Junes Apron.

Rank 8

• Choose any option for all choices during this conversation. Yosuke will learn Diarama upon reaching rank 8.

Rank 9

• When it says “Yosuke is smiling sadly…” choose “Cheer up.” to increase his friendship points by +3.
• When Yosuke says “Just being born, living your life… Before you know it, you’re already special to someone.”, answer with “You’re right.” for +3 friendship.

Rank 10

• For this final conversation, pick any options you’d like.
• Yosuke will learn Evade Electric when you max out his social link, helping to compensate for his weakness to electric attacks.
• You’ll also earn the Buddy’s Bandage item, which allows you to fuse Mada, a powerful high-level Persona.
• Yosuke’s Persona will turn into Susano-o upon maxing out the social link.
