Keep Him Quiet, Or He’ll Call Mama!

In Tattletail, you play as a small child trying to open your Christmas present early. The toy in question is Baby Talking Tattletail, a cute Furby-like creature that you can feed, brush, and speak to. However, Tattletail’s mama is very overprotective of her babies. Each night, you’ll have to be quiet to avoid provoking Mama’s wrath. Keep Tattletail’s needs met, or he’ll complain very, very loudly…

Night One – December 20

For this first night, you’re just learning the basics, so there’s no danger. Your first task is to open your Christmas present. From your room, head to the basement. You’ll be given the tip to use shift to run, but the game notes that this will make noise. Sometimes running isn’t always the best option…

In the basement, open your present. It’s Tattletail! He needs a treat, so take him upstairs to the fridge where he devours human food like it’s perfectly normal. Next, you’ll need to brush his fur. The brush is on the couch in the living room.

Once this is done, it’s time to put Tattletail back to bed. Take him down to the basement and wrap him back up. While you’re here, grab the first of 22 eggs on the table. Getting all of them will lead to the good ending and unlock a special flashlight for future runs.

When you go back upstairs, the phone in the kitchen will ring. The game advises you to ignore it, but if you answer, you’ll hear a disturbing metallic grinding noise. If you want all achievements, though, don’t answer the phone yet. Ignore the phone until December 24th, then answer it to get the “Special Offer” achievement.

Before you go back to bed, notice that the front door is open. There is another egg right outside here. Pick it up, then go into your room. A third egg is on your nightstand. Finally, go to bed and end the night.

Night Two – December 21

Tonight, your first task is to investigate the clunking noise. Like the last night, you can’t die, but things start getting spooky.

Leave your room to see the basement door already open. Go downstairs, and you’ll find the washing machine turned on, with an egg beside it. Shut the machine off and Tattletail will appear on top of it. He needs to be charged, so take him to the purple charging station in the middle of the basement.

Now Tattletail wants to play with a vase, which surely isn’t an expensive mistake. It’s a green and yellow vase sitting in the back of a room in the basement. Grab it, and sure enough, Tattletail will break it.

The power goes out, so you’ll need a flashlight. It will start glowing on a nearby shelf. To light it up, you’ll need to shake it, which produces noise. In this room, grab an egg on top of the washing machine before leaving. Now it’s time to wrap Tattletail back up. In the main area of the basement, there’s another egg on top of a covered piece of furniture.

Upstairs, the hallway is dark, and someone is knocking on the front door, which is thankfully shut. Ignore it and go to bed.

Night Three – December 22

Tonight is the first night you encounter Mama, the villain of this tale. It is possible to die from here on out.

Grab the flashlight, and the game will tell you to investigate a grinding noise in the basement. It is dark down here again. You’ll see a trail of 5 eggs on the ground, luring you deeper into the basement. At the end, you’ll find Mama. Load the cassette next to her, and she’ll read you a story while her head spins around.

Now it’s time to find Tattletail upstairs. When you’re not holding Tattletail, Mama will not be hostile, so feel free to run. The little rascal is laughing in the living room after knocking your stuff over. Bring him back to Mama for some discipline. When you get into the basement… where’s Mama? You’ll find an egg where she was sitting.

The game tells you to go wrap Tattletail up. Put him away, then head back upstairs to clean up his mess. But oh no, when you enter the kitchen, the power goes out! Mama is now hunting you. Use the flashlight sparingly and slowly make your way over to the mess. Don’t run, it will make noise and Mama will kill you. You could also wait her out, she will go away eventually.

When you finally reach the mess, clean it up, then go to bed. Tonight, you don’t have to worry about any knocking from outside. The danger is already in the house.

Night Four – December 23

On this night, your task is to investigate the chattering coming from outside. Walk out the open door into the backyard. In the garage, you’ll find Tattletail with a little yellow friend. Pick up your purple Tattletail to get things rolling.

Tattletail wants to play hide and seek. To start, touch his yellow friend. There is no peeking. You must survive Mama for the next 30 seconds while the yellow one hides. During the game, you will also need to keep Tattletail’s needs fulfilled, which may involve backtracking. Also, after the yellow one hides there will be an egg where he was sitting in the garage.

Yellow’s first hiding spot is under the Christmas tree. When you’re ready (it helps to refill Tattletail’s needs before this), touch Yellow. You’ll now need to survive Mama for 1 minute. There will be an egg under the Christmas tree where Yellow was hiding.

The second hiding spot is in your room, in the wardrobe. Refill your needs, grab the egg in this hiding spot, then start round 3. This time, survive Mama for 90 seconds. When it’s time to find Yellow, he’s in Mama’s favorite spot in the basement, with an egg beside him. Take the VHS tape next to Yellow as well. Bring the tape to your room and play it; also, grab the egg on the kitchen counter on your way. After watching a bizarre commercial, the night ends.

Night Five – December 24

Tonight, Tattletail has decided to be your personal alarm clock. Grab him off your drawer, and he’ll tell you he’s having a party for Mama in the basement. By party, he means banishment ritual.

While you’re in the house, grab the egg on top of the toilet in the bathroom. The door to the backyard is open, and you’ll be able to enter the basement through a hatch out here. Before you go in, grab an egg in the doghouse. There’s also another egg in the bushes near the back door. In the basement, you’ll see the yellow Tattletail from yesterday and a new blue one. Set your Tattletail down with them.

The next task given to you is finding a friend by the Christmas tree. Make your way to the Christmas tree and unwrap the present to get another Tattletail, while avoiding Mama. This yellow one will say ominous things like “Mama saw you” and “Mama’s watching”. Bring him back down to the basement with the others.

Next, find a blue Tattletail in the garage, and bring him to his friends. Now all of the Tattletails have arrived at the party. Your next task is to grab cupcakes upstairs and deliver them to your guests. The cupcakes are in the room next to the kitchen on a table. Once that’s done, you’ll need to get some festive lights. Just take them off the Christmas tree. After that, grab the candles from the kitchen counter. When you get back, the basement is ready. Place the candles, then let Tattletail join the seance.

It is now time for your part in the ritual. Light the candles and rewind the VHS tape. Things seem to be going OK until Mama steals the candles. They are hidden in vases around the basement, although not every vase will have a candle.

While avoiding Mama, sneak around and smash vases until you get all of the candles. This is easier said than done, since smashing the vases makes noise, and so does charging your flashlight and running.

Eventually you’ll make it to five candles. Place them and relight them, then destroy the VHS tape to get rid of Mama. The ritual is done! On your way back to bed, grab the egg in front of your mom’s door. And if you’re going for the “Special Offer” achievement, it’s finally time to answer the phone. Go to bed knowing you’ve saved the Tattletails and Mama is gone… right?

Christmas Day

You awaken on Christmas morning to a much brighter atmosphere. Before opening your present, get the last egg from the stocking on the fireplace. If you got all the eggs, you get Tattletail; if not, you get Mama.

When you’ve found every egg, Tattletail will give you a gift of his own. You’ve earned the golden flashlight, which stays lit longer and makes less noise. Now go wake up Mama… your mama, that is. Congratulations!

Secrets

• There is a secret level called the Kaleidoscope that unlocks when you beat the game.
• If you beat the game and got the good ending, look at the code on your Tattletail’s tag. Write it down if you need to. Then select a level in the main menu and choose chapter 5 to get the Tattletail tape. Press the numbered camera buttons to input the number on your gift tag. You will be able to view a secret camera.
• Knock on your mom’s door while Mama is hunting you to get the “What else did you expect?” achievement.
