Ayane Matsunaga: The Sun

Ayane Matsunaga is one of two possible representatives of the Sun arcana in Persona 4, with the other being Yumi Ozawa. You’ll get to know Ayane if you join the school band.

Ayane is shy and quiet; rather than grabbing the spotlight, she handles the paperwork for the band. One day she hopes to be confident enough to play a solo, and she dreams of becoming a professional trombone player even if she lacks the perceived natural talent of other students. In her social link, you’ll help Ayane learn to shine on her own and find her confidence, as well as helping her find the courage to take the opportunities that are presented to her.

Tips

• To start Ayane’s social link, on April 25th join the music club and go to practice.
• Ayane is available to spend time with on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, but not on rainy days. Bring a Sun persona with you to level up faster!
• Try to raise your Courage and Understanding stats to unlock dialogue options that will give more points towards Ayane’s social link. Her social link gives back by helping you build other stats with certain dialogue choices.
• Ayane is a potential love interest for the protagonist, and her romance route can be started on rank 8, or kept as a strong friendship. If you cheat on her with other girls, there will be consequences on Valentine’s Day…

• When Ayane asks, “Do you have any questions?”, you can choose any answer but note that asking her if she has a boyfriend requires level 2 Courage.
• When it says, “Cleanup looks like a big task for just one person…”, choose to “Help out.” to raise your Understanding.

Rank 2

• When Ayane says, “I wish I had as much talent as you.”, tell her “You do have talent.” for +3 friendship.
• Again, it’ll say “Cleanup looks like a big task for just one person…”. “Help out.” a second time to raise your Understanding stat again and get +3 friendship.

Rank 3

• When Ayane says, “I think I’ll stick around and practice. I was out so long, I didn’t even touch my trombone.”, say “Forget about it today.” for +3 friendship.
• When she says, “…not that I’ll be in it, but still…”, you can pick either answer.
• When Ayane says, “Because there are lots of other things I can do for the club. Scheduling, accounting, cleaning up…”, tell her “That’s a great attitude.” for +2 friendship.

Rank 4

• When Ayane says, “Shoot… I still can’t play the part I was messing up last time.”, ask her “Why don’t you give up?” if you have level 3 Courage to get +3 friendship. The other options give no points.
• When she says, “It’d be nice to be able to play outside, but I’d embarrass myself if I went alone…”, you have 2 options that both give +3 friendship.
  • “Want me to help out?” requires level 3 Understanding and raises your Understanding stat.
  • “Alright, follow me.” requires level 3 Courage and raises your Expression stat.

Rank 5

• When it says, “As the others leave, Ayane stays engrossed in her practice…”, choose either response.
• When Ayane says, “I can’t… I can’t do it…”, there are two options of interest that give +3 friendship:
  • “It’s okay to mess up.” requires level 3 Understanding and raises your Understanding stat.
  • “Don’t worry, you can do it.” raises your Expression stat.

• When “The other members are remaining silent…”, choose “Stick up for Ayane.” to raise your Expression.
• When Ayane is weeping…, you can hold her to raise the social link by 3 points, or comfort her to raise your Expression stat.

• When it says, “What should you do…?”, this is where it splits into the romance and friendship routes.
  • “Reveal your feelings for her.” puts you on the Romance route.
  • “Change the subject.” puts you on the Friendship route.

If you chose to romance Ayane:

• When Ayane looks at the ground nervously, all choices give an equal number of points but asking her to come to your house requires max Courage.

If you chose to keep things platonic:

• The social link progresses automatically.

• For both the romance route and the friendship route, choose whatever dialogue you’d like, as no options have more points than another.
• Upon completing Ayane’s social link, you’ll get the Handmade Ticket, which will let you fuse the persona Asura.
