Layla: Sumeru’s Sleepwalking Astrologist
Genshin Impact‘s hangout events take you on several different routes to explore a day with one of your characters. This hangout allows you to spend time with Layla, a perpetually exhausted but sweet astrology student at Sumeru Akademiya. To unlock Layla’s hangout questline, you must complete Sumeru’s archon questline and reach adventure rank 40. Crucial route-defining choices will be marked in orange.
Layla is a 4-star Cryo sword-wielding character from Sumeru. She’s an astrology student from the Akademiya’s Rtawahist darshan, and her topic of research is theoretical astrology. Layla is the pride and joy of her hometown as someone who got accepted into the prestigious Akademiya, and she is absolutely terrified of letting everyone down.
Like many students in real life, Layla has a rigorous schedule, attending class by day and writing papers by night. However, her paranoia and anxiety take this to an extreme, to the point where the poor girl never sleeps until she passes out. When this happens, her other personality, who we’ll call Sleepwalking Layla, awakens to finish her homework.
Sleepwalking Layla is quite different than her awake counterpart. Where Awake Layla is timid and listless, her sleepwalking form is bold, direct, and full of energy. She’s even been seen scaling the Wall of Samiel in her sleep, although nobody knew it was her!
Layla has no idea about her other self and attributes her completed schoolwork to a blessing from the stars. Unfortunately, Awake Layla lacks confidence in her own abilities and struggles to connect with her fellow students.
Can you be the friend she needs and help her find her comfort zone at the Akademiya? It all depends on your choices!
Ending 1: That Which Remains Unspoken
Let’s begin with the first ending.
Drowsy Evening Star
- Once you start the quest, go to the Sumeru Akademiya. Layla is standing next to the fountain by the entrance.
- If you met her before in the 3.2 patch, pick either “You seem a little tired” or “Are you going to go visit Twirly-Whirly?” If you haven’t met her yet, pick any option. Whichever you choose, her stress value will go up by +1.
- “Cheer up. Things probably aren’t as bad as you think they are.”
- “Are they a sage?”
- “That sounds pretty extraordinary.”
- “Can Seelies even do something like that?”
- “It sounds a little sketchy, but I’ll go check it out with you.”
- “It’s fine, I don’t have anything going on.”
- “So do you just call its name and it appears?”
The Wisdom Seelie
- Enter the House of Daena and talk to Rabah.
Dislocated Dialogue
- Go to the back of the library and find the bookshelf that Rabah mentioned.
- After a conversation with Layla, you’ll automatically return the next day.
- “Your eyes are sparkling” (This decreases Layla’s stress value by -1)
- “It might be messing with you.” (Layla’s stress will go back up by +1)
- “The main issue is that you have a deadline to meet.”
- “You don’t actually believe in those legends, do you…?”
Taking the Opposite Route
- Talk to Katayoun, Hunayn, and Latifah in the library to gather more information about the wisdom seelie.
Compiling the Clues
- Go and talk to Layla to put your clues together, and you will enter a contemplation minigame. You’ll get four pieces of info to start with: the “book checkout logs,” the “shadow that infiltrated the House of Daena,” the “wisdom seelie’s superpower,” and the “sighting location.”
- Interpret the book checkout logs to get “the wisdom seelie’s true identity,” and interpret this new information as well.
- Associate “the wisdom seelie’s true identity” with the “sighting location” to get “the wisdom seelie’s behavioral logic.” Submit this as your conclusion to end the minigame.
- “Look at you, finishing your thesis should be no problem at all.”
The Truth Behind “It”
- Go to the watchtower overlooking Pardis Dhyai. You may need to activate some Dendro elemental monuments to unlock the watchtower if you haven’t previously been to this area. Once it’s open, climb up the ladder and talk to Layla.
- “I’ll stay up with you.”
- “Oh, nothing. Maybe there really isn’t anything we can do.” (Stress +1)
- “There’s nothing else I can do. I’m sorry.” (Stress +1)
- (I’m sorry to have to make you feel so uncomfortable.) (Stress +1)
- At stress +5, Layla’s other personality awakens.
- “But you somehow seem a little different.”
- “You’re the Seelie, aren’t you?”
- “What’s with the Seelie pranking people?”
- “Did you infiltrate the House of Daena? And what about those rumors of special powers?”
- “Actually, I have one last question.”
- “Why don’t you want her to know you exist?”
- “I understand.” (Layla’s stress decreases by -1, causing her normal personality to come back.)
- “Nope.”
Ending 2: The Price to Pay and Its Returns
Here are the steps for the second ending.
Drowsy Evening Star
- Once you start the quest, go to the Sumeru Akademiya. Layla is standing next to the fountain by the entrance.
- If you met her before in the 3.2 patch, pick either “You seem a little tired” or “Are you going to go visit Twirly-Whirly?” If you haven’t met her yet, pick any option. Either way, her stress level increases by +1.
- “You still have time, right?”
- “Are they the Great Fungus Elder?”
- “I want powers like that.”
- “Maybe it’s some researcher who wants to remain anonymous?”
- “It sounds a little sketchy, but I’ll go check it out with you.”
- “I’m worried that you’ll pass out from exhaustion soon.”
- “Or is there some kind of summoning ritual?”
The Wisdom Seelie
- Enter the House of Daena and talk to Rabah.
Dislocated Dialogue
- Go to the back of the library and find the bookshelf that Rabah mentioned.
- After a conversation with Layla, you’ll automatically return the next day.
- “Your eyes are sparkling.” (Layla loses -1 stress)
- “I’ll search for the answer with you.”
- “Don’t worry about it.”
- “Maybe it wasn’t referring to you specifically.”
Further Investigation
- Go to the first place mentioned in the letter, near the Palace of Alcazarzaray.
- “The peace of mind it gave you must be irreplaceable.”
- “Let’s look around first.”
- Now fly down the hill to the quest marker circle and you will see a stack of stones. Break it.
- “It seems like the Seelie knows you really well.”
- “This might be too much, even for the Wisdom Seelie.” (Layla’s stress increases by +1)
- “Should we still keep following these clues…?”
Underlying Meaning
- Go to the next location, near the entrance to Sumeru City.
- “Oh, not really…”
- After talking with Layla, jump off the bridge and glide to the spot on the riverbank. Destroy the rocks here to find the next message.
- “Sounds like this is getting personal.”
The Road to Failure
- Go to the next location, near Vimara Village.
- “So you wanted to help, but couldn’t?” (Stress +1)
- “You did the right thing.”
- “The Seelie probably wants to do more than just criticize you for the past. Why don’t you try facing your challenge head-on?”
One Final Step
- Walk over to the next spot and break the rock stack.
- “This might be the last stop in our search.”
- Go to the house shown in the picture, inside the village
- “Calm down.”
- Open the last package with Layla.
- “Either way, it’s safe to say that it’s related to the blessing from the stars.” (Layla’s stress goes down by -2)
- “He’s right.” (Layla’s stress decreases by another 2 increments)
- For getting this ending, you’ll earn an achievement, “Secret of Seelie and the Star-Lit Sky.”
Ending 3: Once Bitten, Twice Shy
Now onto the third ending!
Drowsy Evening Star
- Once you start the quest, go to the Sumeru Akademiya. Layla is standing next to the fountain by the entrance.
- If you met her before in the 3.2 patch, pick either “You seem a little tired” or “Are you going to go visit Twirly-Whirly?” If you haven’t met her yet, pick any option. Any option will increase her stress level by +1.

- “Is this “someone” a good friend of yours?”
- “That sounds pretty extraordinary.”

The Wisdom Seelie
- Enter the House of Daena and talk to Rabah.

Ending 4: A Matter of Course
Here’s the route for the fourth ending.

Remedial Measures
- Next, find Azzam in Treasures Street.
- To keep Layla’s stress value from increasing, choose “Don’t be nervous. Just explain what you’ve learned.”
Thesis Defense Practice
- Go to the House of Daena to help Layla practice her thesis defense. If you want Layla to succeed and achieve this ending, choose your answers carefully.
- “Can you briefly describe the application of the law of triple-orbit shift calculation?”
- “You worked hard to reach this point. You don’t need to rely on others anymore.” (Layla really appreciates this, her stress goes down by -2)
- “I’m sure “it” will also be very happy to know you feel this way.” (Stress -1)
- For completing this ending, you’ll receive a furnishing item, “The Arrayed Stars Mirrored,” a piece of astrology equipment. Also, if Layla’s stress value is the lowest it could be, you’ll earn the “She’s Already Tense” achievement.
Ending 5: The Stars’ Expectations
Follow these steps for the fifth ending.
Drowsy Evening Star

- If you met her before in the 3.2 patch, pick either “You seem a little tired” or “Are you going to go visit Twirly-Whirly?” If you haven’t met her yet, pick any option. Any of these will up her stress level by +1.

The Helper

Remedial Measures
- Find Azzam on Treasures Street.
- “If you mess this up, you won’t be able to gain his trust.” (This will increase Layla’s stress by +1, but that is our goal for this ending.)
- “Are you okay!?” (Stress +1)
- The other personality should be occupying Layla’s body now.
- “The real Layla wouldn’t forget what to do next.”
The Remaining Problem
- Go to the House of Daena to work on the thesis.
- Talk to the other Layla. You will receive the furnishing item “The Arrayed Stars Mirrored” if you are doing this ending before ending 4.
Ending 6: A Moment of Respite
Finally, here’s the route for the sixth ending.
Drowsy Evening Star
- Once you start the quest, go to the Sumeru Akademiya. Layla is standing next to the fountain by the entrance.
- If you met her before in the 3.2 patch, pick either “You seem a little tired” or “Are you going to go visit Twirly-Whirly?” If you haven’t met her yet, pick any option. All options increase Layla’s stress value by +1.
- “You still have time, right?”
- “Is this “someone” a good friend of yours?”
- “I want powers like that.”
- “Maybe it’s some researcher who wants to remain anonymous?”
- “It’s too risky to rely on some fishy legend to complete your thesis.”
- “You’ll waste even more time if you try to push yourself like this.”
A Change of Pace
- Go to Puspa Cafe.
- “What are you getting at?” (Layla’s stress +1)
- “Just because Layla breaks the mold doesn’t mean it’s a problem.”
- “Only by improving yourself and no longer relying on an external power can you break out of the vicious cycle.”
- “Sounds like we need to find a way for you to completely relax.”
- “You’re taking your studies too seriously.”
Fresh Air
- Go to the forest north of Chatrakam Cave.
- Talk to Layla, and then follow her, picking fruit as you go.
- Once you have everything, give the fruit to Layla. You only need one of each type (apples, Zaytun peaches, and Harra fruit), but you can pick more if you want.
Like the Old Days
- Collect firewood around the campsite. You’ll need to fight a few hilichurls around the tree first.
- “Although adventurers rarely ever stay in one place, I hope I can experience that feeling one day.”
- “Everything will get better. I know you can do it.” (Stress -1)
- “It’s nice to just stroll around and see what happens.”
One Hearty Meal Later
- Go to the lakeside.
- “It’s one of those things that you never forget.”
- Participate in a swimming race with Layla.
- “I think you’re a great swimmer. You weren’t too far behind.”
- “You really are too modest.” (Stress -1)
From Riverbeds to Mountain Peaks
- Go to the top of the mountain, where Layla will have you jump on a bouncy mushroom. Afterwards, continue to the top.
- Choose “Let’s save the stuff about stars for when they appear.” to decrease Layla’s stress by -1.
- Enjoy a moment of peace with Layla.
