Faruzan: Wisdom From Ages Past

Genshin Impact‘s hangout events allow you to get to know your characters better, and they work like a visual novel game with different routes based on your choices. To unlock this hangout, you will first need to complete Tighnari’s story quest and the Sumeru archon quest, and you must reach adventure rank 40. By the way, important choices are written in orange for this guide.

Faruzan is a 4-star Anemo bow character from Sumeru. It may surprise you to find out that she was born over 100 years ago. Back then, she worked hard to become a scholar at Sumeru Akademiya, studying the mechanics of ruin machines despite being a member of Haravatat, the linguistics department. One day Faruzan became trapped in a ruin that froze her physical state in time, and it took her 100 years to finally solve all of the puzzles and free herself. After being found by a merchant caravan, she promptly resumed her position at the Akademiya, only to discover that a lot had changed while she was gone.

Madam Faruzan considers herself a senior despite her youthful appearance, and clings tightly to her pride in a way that makes some people think she’s too stubborn. Faruzan is frustrated by the Darshan system’s strict limits on what each scholar should be studying; to her, crossing disciplines is how you open your mind to new ideas. Since she was gone so long, her research is viewed as obsolete, and so she struggles to receive funding, but Faruzan is determined to help her students advance the study of mechanics… once she can find some students. Will our wise old mentor be able to adjust to the modern world, and earn the respect of today’s Akademiya? Find out in her hangout event!

“As a scholar, I should have the courage to accept failure and shoulder all of its consequences. I never wanted anyone to pity me, whether it be back then or right now. Also, don’t forget that I eventually managed to solve that final puzzle by my own power, and freed myself from that accursed place… Instead of pity, shouldn’t people feel encouragement and inspiration from my story?”

Ending 1: Stories of the Past

Here is how you can get this ending.

A Mysterious Senior…?

  • Go to Pardis Dhyai and talk to Tighnari and Collei.
  • “Why’d you think of me…?”
  • “Research banned by the Akademiya?”
  • Find Faruzan at the Akademiya.
  • (So she disappeared for 100 years…)
  • (This sounds like some internal Akademiya dispute…)

An Akademic Problem

  • Talk to Collei.
  • “Let’s help her resolve her current problem first.”
  • “You don’t have to force yourself.”
  • Talk to Faruzan.
  • “It’s no trouble at all.”
  • “Tell me more about that Haravatat course…”
  • (So she’s doing very niche research…)
  • “Collei needs to learn how to read…”
  • “Can’t it be a public course?”

Doing Paperwork Sure Is Tough!

  • Go to the entrance to the Akademiya.
  • “You seem quite scared of her.”
  • “The way she treats you…”
  • “…She keeps asking you to become her student?”
  • (Were they convinced…)
  • “…What other learning methods does Collei use?”
  • “How do we choose our course materials, then?”
  • “If even a centenarian like you finds that tale old…”

Finding Teaching Material Sure Is Tough!

  • Go to the book vendors at Treasures Street.
  • “It’s for readers who don’t care about plot.”
  • “It’s for readers who don’t care much for logic.”
  • (Is she embarrassed to admit that she likes books like that?)
  • “She was able to say those phrases in such a serious tone…”
  • “I think it’s because such names are “cool”…”
  • “That book’s only 100 years old, Collei…”
  • Go to the antique shop at Treasures Street.
  • “I’m afraid not.”

Being A Classic Sure Is Tough!

  • Go to Puspa Café and talk to Maddah.
  • “You know, I think…”
  • “It doesn’t matter if it’s a classic or a fad. What matters is that you like it.”
  • “The problem here is not actually about improving your reading skills…”
  • “You should think about the present first.”
  • “Perhaps “Analysis of Popular Literature” might do the trick?”
  • “It’s good to reminisce on an old tale in a while.”

Ending 2: Knowledge is Wealth!

Make the following choices to reach this ending.

A Mysterious Senior…?

  • Go to Pardis Dhyai and talk to Tighnari and Collei.
  • “What made you think I have time on my hands?”
  • “And something that I know about…”
  • Find Faruzan at the Akademiya.
  • (What in the world happened to her?)
  • (This seems to have nothing to do with Tighnari’s request…)

  • “Let’s observe the situation first.”
  • Talk to Faruzan.
  • “I specialize in solving problems.”
  • “Let’s hear what this Kshahrewar collaborative project is about…”
  • “He only said that you’re a very senior researcher in the field of mechanisms…”
  • “I’ll take you there.”

Toys And How To Play With Them

  • Go to Port Ormos and look for Anis.
  • “By any chance, has it been very difficult for you…”
  • Talk to the staff at Acara Crafts.
  • “So they were lured in by the promise of a different toy…”
  • “Somewhat.”
  • “127 steps.” (Note: Faruzan’s toy is based on a famous puzzle called the Tower of Hanoi. You must find the smallest number of moves required to move the disks into a pyramid-shaped stack, but this can easily be solved by using the mathematical formula 2n-1, where n=the number of disks. Since there are 7 disks, 27-1=127, so it will take at least 127 steps to move all the disks into one stack. For getting the right answer here, you’ll get the “Mechanics: From Beginner to…?” achievement.)
  • Talk to everyone after the kids are finished playing.

Question And Answer Time

  • “So, about Kshahrewar…”
  • “Then why do you refuse to join them?”
  • “About the collaborative project…”
