Fables and Family Secrets
Tell Me Why is an adventure game about a pair of twins with a supernatural bond that allows them to hear each other’s thoughts when they’re nearby and rewatch their past memories.
Alyson and Tyler are investigating their past and the secrets of their deceased mother while getting their childhood home ready for sale. They’ve been separated for 10 years, and during that time Tyler transitioned from female to male. The game explores this evolution of their sibling dynamic and the town’s reaction, as well as themes of generational trauma and how differences in perspective affect the way we see our memories.
The story in this game is a work of art, and the characters feel realistic and have a lot of depth to them. I was floored by some of the revelations, such as the identity of their father and their mom’s past life, so you definitely should give it a shot. Plus, it’s got a beautiful setting in picturesque Alaska, so you have something pretty to look at while you cry. It’s free every June for Pride month!
Like many adventure games, there are missable collectibles for you to find, although this game allows you to replay parts of each chapter if you didn’t get something and adds it to your main playthrough file. In this case, the collectibles are figurines made by the twins’ mom, Mary-Ann, and they correspond to characters from the stories she wrote for them. If you get all of them in the Steam version, you’ll get an achievement.
Chapter 1 Collectibles
There are 5 figurines to find in Chapter 1.

The Crafty Goblins
As Alyson, in the beginning of the game, look under the bed for a box. She’ll open it and pull out her goblin figurine. Then, when you get to play as Tyler, look on the left side of his desk and pick up his figurine. You’ll need both for it to count.

The Mad Hunter
As Tyler, in the part where you’re looking under the house, you can grab this collectible. When you see the kids’ artwork of a dragon, turn right and you should see the figurine on the ground.

The Wise Princess
In Mary-Ann’s bedroom, you can find the Wise Princess. She is on the floor to the right of the bed.

The Pious Pelican
At the Vecchi’s store, look inside the cabinet in Tessa’s office to find the Pious Pelican.

The Ice King
This figurine is in the police station. Once you get into the interrogation room next to the kitchen, go to the back of the room and you should see the figurine on the ground in between a cabinet and some storage boxes.
Chapter 2 Collectibles
Chapter 2 has 5 figurines for you to find.

The Big Frog
When you’re marking things in the house to keep, sell, or throw away, look under the living room table. Alyson glued this figurine to the bottom of the table with gum as a child. Very sanitary.

The Stalwart Moose
When you get into Eddy’s office in the police station on the second floor, look in his desk drawer to find the Stalwart Moose.

The Mangy Muskrat
In the storage room of the Vecchi’s store, look at the drawer next to the fridge, and you will see this figurine next to the portrait of the hot priest.

The Very Old Beaver
This collectible is in the box behind Carol Brown’s grave, in the second area of the graveyard.

The Moon Hag
After the barn is ransacked, look in the shed area and you should see this inside a low cabinet in the back.
Chapter 3 Collectibles
There are 3 figurines to track down in Chapter 3.

The Secret Keeper
You start the day as Alyson, in her and Eddy’s house. Look in the living room by a window for some coins by her purse and take one. Then go into Eddy’s room and examine the puzzle box on his shelf. Insert a coin to open it and take this figurine.

The Old Bear
When Sam calls you upstairs in his boat repair shop, look in his desk drawer to find this collectible.

The Gold Lady
You’ll automatically get the Gold Lady as you progress through the first puzzle in the barn’s loft, where you spot the difference between the wall and the storybook page. The solution has five differences: the title, the princess, the castle, the hands, and the missing goblins. Once you get it a secret compartment will open in the wall, with this collectible inside.
What To Do With All 13 Figures
After you collect everything, you can place each figurine on its pedestal in the barn’s loft. This will earn you an achievement in Steam, “And Everything In Its Place”. Below are the correct placements for each collectible.
