Housesitting? It Should Be Easy, Right?

Fears to Fathom: Carson House is the third entry in the series. This time, you’re playing as Noah, reliving a traumatic night from ten years ago, when he was 18.

Noah is housesitting for his father’s friend Roy Carson, a prominent media personality. Roy is having a difficult time and needs to leave town until things blow over. Why? You’ll find out soon enough. Do the tasks he texts you, but make sure you stay alert, and check the house’s security system often. Who knows who will show up on your doorstep?

I Dream of Cleaning

The game begins in a strange laundromat. Go to the door in the back with the “Private” sign over it and open it. Then head down the stairs into a long hallway filled with endless washing machines. Eventually, a man will talk to you, yelling about bleach, until you wake up.

You’re in your dad’s car, getting dropped off for the night at Mr. Carson’s house. After he leaves, follow his instructions to head to the backyard. If you want, you can jump in the pool for a funny message. Look next to the doghouse marked “Boy”, and you should see a rock on the ground. Pick it up to get the house key, then head inside.

Taking Care of Business

Once you get inside, Noah mentions he needs to pee. The bathroom is just past the dining room area. Open the toilet lids to pee in a horror game. For a funny message and 0 stars on Yelp, you can jiggle the mouse to pee outside of the toilet.

After you use the bathroom, Mr. Carson will text you. Read a bunch of texts from him and Evelyn Cooper (Noah’s girlfriend) to get the Reader achievement. Walk around and explore the house for a bit to trigger the next text: feed Zeke, the dog.

Food For Zeke Because He’s A Good Boy

Naturally, Zeke’s food is hiding in the creepy dark basement. Go inside, and then Mr. Carson will text you with his flashlight’s location. Head out of the basement and up to the second floor; the flashlight is on the left-side shelf in the storage room next to the stairs.

Once you’ve picked up the flashlight, press F to turn it on, and go back down into the basement. The dog food is on a shelf in a can. Bring a can into the kitchen and place it on the counter in the middle. There’s a can opener sitting there that you can use to open the can. Now bring the food outside and pour it in Zeke’s bowl. He is thankful.

Fixing Carson’s Computer

Go back inside the house to get another text from Mr. Carson. Your next task is to fix his computer in his study on the second floor. It’s all the way down the hallway on the left side.

Once you sit down at the computer, he’ll text you his password: Alecarson5387. When you’re in, click on the internet browser and scroll down to see a sketchy-looking link for an antivirus software. Download it and use it to perform a full scan, removing the Trojan virus.

Now you’re free to browse on this computer. If you go into the Recycle Bin, there’s an amusing video you can restore. You can also play Guess the Flag to get the Knowledgeable achievement for 7 correct answers in a row. Of more interest, though, is the EyeNet application. This is Roy Carson’s security system, and it will be crucial at certain points later on in the game. Look around in it and see where the cameras are.

A Very Strange Cooking Show

After you exit the computer, you’ll see a new message from Evelyn. She tells you about a TV show to watch. Go downstairs to the living room and watch a cooking show on how to make cat food.

While you’re there, your TV viewing is interrupted by Mr. Carson, who wants you to pick up groceries before the store closes. He left you money in the nightstand in his bedroom, so walk upstairs and open the right nightstand’s drawer. Next, head outside and borrow his son Alec’s bike by the garage. Ride the bike down the street in any direction to go to the convenience store.

Grocery Social

At the grocery store, first ride your bike inside for the secret Nuisance achievement, then drop it off outside. Before you pick up a basket, it’s time to meet your fellow shoppers.

There’s an old lady walking around the store searching for mustard for her son. Once you find it (yellow jars on the shelf near the cash register) return to her and hand it over. You’ll get the Helper achievement for your trouble.

You’ll also run into Turner and Andy, two of your classmates. They report that they just saw your ex-girlfriend leaving the store with a massive stash of alcohol. They also try to convince you to come hang out, but you have work to do at the Carson house. Once you’re done talking, it’s time to shop.

Buy Only What You Need

Mr Carson texted you a list of items he needs:

  • Ranch dressing
  • Ketchup
  • Honey
  • Strawberry Jelly
  • Chocospread
  • Milk
  • Eggs
  • Garden Peas
  • Uncle Tony’s Rice

Once you’ve found everything on the shelves, bring your basket to the cashier and pay. I had a little more fun picking up toilet paper like it’s 2020 and then flooding the store with mountains of food. However, to continue the game you’ll have to stick to the list. After you’ve bought only the necessary supplies, get back on your bike and travel back to the house.

Hot Gossip

At the house, Noah has several things he needs to do. First, put the grocery bag down in the kitchen. Then go to the bathroom and pee. Next, it’s time to start on Noah’s calculus homework. Grab your flashlight from the last place you left it, then walk up the stairs to Mr. Carson’s study.

Before you can get started, you’ll get messages from Andy. Sit down at the computer, open up the internet browser and type “Roy Carson divorce” into the search bar. You’ll get some concerning background info on Roy. He’s divorcing his actress wife, and his wife’s fans are not happy with him. “Not happy” enough to come knocking on his door.

As if summoned, the doorbell will ring downstairs.

Free Pizza, Free Flowers, Free Harassment

At the front door, rather than opening the door right away, you can ask questions. The person at the door is revealed to be a pizza delivery guy. Roy kindly ordered you some dinner. However, the pizza guy is overstaying his welcome and wants to come inside. Refuse him and he will leave.

Sit down in front of the TV and eat your pizza after switching it on. Soon you should hear the doorbell ringing again. This time, there’s only silence at the door. If you go upstairs and look at the cameras, you can see the person going around to the back of the house. Open the door to get a bouquet. Put the flowers down somewhere.

Noah will mention after this that he needs to study, so turn the TV off and go upstairs. Check your messages while you walk to the study. An unknown number is texting you, but it’s time to hit the books. Click on your textbook to become engrossed.

Power Outage

After 1 AM, you’re still up studying when the power goes out. Zeke is barking at something outside. Before doing anything, look at the front door on the CCTV. Somebody outside just went near the garage, so don’t go that way or they’ll kill you. Grab your flashlight and go around the other side of the building, noticing a strange car parked across the street…

Zeke is barking next to the power box, glowing red. If you wait around long enough outside, you should be able to hear the front door open. After this, fix the power box, then head back in through the open front door. You should catch the recording room door closing shut as you enter. Don’t go in there unless you want to die.

What Was That Noise?

Once you’re back upstairs, look in the recording room on the cameras, and you should see it all messed up. Noah, however, is going to just ignore it and study. Intruders? Not as scary as failing calculus!

After studying again, you should hear some noises. Check the CCTV again to see that the recording room door is wide open now. Go back to studying again, and then you’ll be interrupted… again. This time when you check the cameras, you’ll see that the oven is on and somebody is outside the window. Mmm, I bet those cookies are to die for! Head downstairs to see what’s up.

Where Did That Knife Go?

Once you’re downstairs, click on the oven to turn it off. The cookies were a lie. Also, one of the knives in the knife block has mysteriously vanished. How odd. Welp, back to studying. Head back upstairs, but make sure you open the laundry room door before you enter the study. It’s right across the hall.

Inside the study, Andy will text you again. Check the cameras again, and you should see that the intruder came in through the back door. Andy will keep texting you, and eventually he’ll say something about an article. At this point, look at the cameras again in the living room. There’s a girl with a knife heading up the stairs. Finally, Noah realizes what’s been going on.

CCTV Is Your Friend

Quickly, switch over to the camera in the upstairs hallway. She’s looking in the bedroom down there, first. Stay inside the study and don’t leave or she will kill you. Wait until she’s standing in front of the blocked door to the study. She’ll start talking to you, and you’ll find out who she is. Eventually, she’ll threaten to kill you. Now, it’s finally time for action.

The Great Escape

The intruder will start moving towards the other study door, but it’s around a corner. Before she arrives, you must bolt from your side of the study. Hide in the laundry room. Make sure you close the door behind you.

Stay quiet in real life, because the game will use your microphone to pick up sound. If you’re screaming over the situation, she will hear you in the laundry room and enter. It can help to lower your game volume, because that can be picked up by the microphone.

Eventually, Noah will say it’s time to make a run for it. Don’t hesitate too long here or Andy will text you and give away your location. Sprint out the door to the left and go straight to the stairs. With this, you’ve completed the game and earned the Survivor achievement. Congratulations!
